      <image:caption>Hi guys! I wanted to start with this thought: “Keep moving forward in the direction you are going! ↗️ “ We had a great little family getaway to the 30A beaches in Florida☀️! What a peaceful location guys, I highly recommend it ❤️. We took morning walks on the beach and enjoyed being outside almost all day every day… The time away was inspiring and helped get some new ideas flowing for all of us!  On one of our morning walks, I remembered this phrase that I started with and it helped to frame and recenter my thoughts. Another way to say this: Go at your own pace, but don’t stop moving ahead⏩. Move on ahead. Go further! ⏭ You don’t have to jump, or run, or fly‍♀️. Taking steps is just fine❤️. But continue moving onward➡️! The path to take is already known to you. Just keep going forward. I also try to consistently work on self-improvement, so I can be the best version of myself for my family, my village, my patients and their families, and even the people I don’t know that I come across in my day-to-day!       <image:caption>Hi fam! I thought I’d spend a few minutes today talking about Dancer pose, or Natarajasana. This pose is quite challenging and there are a lot of different factors at play- there’s a backbend element‍♀️, a how-tight-are-your-hamstrings element, a balancing element, lots of different moving parts that can make this pose, along with many of almost all other Yoga poses, seem out-of-reach or impossible! The first step is to acknowledge that while some asanas come naturally or easily for some people, they might be more challenging for others (maybe even you!). And in this pose for me: Just because my back leg/foot isn’t lifted to the level of my head, just because I have a small micro-bend at the knee of my standing leg, many other adjustments I’ve made in this pose, it doesn’t mean that I couldn’t find Strength, Steadiness, Grace, and maybe even Enjoyment (dare I say!) in my unique versions of these poses. That leads me to the following next realization: Anyone and Everyone who practices Yoga Has A Yoga Body! No matter what your pose looks like, it is uniquely yours. And it is your Powerful version. And it is very much Yoga. Hope this message lifts you up a bit as we are start our week!       <image:caption>Hi everyone! We started off today (Super Bowl Sunday!) with a Powerful Sweaty Strong POWER Yoga class!! I am so grateful for everyone who joined in! Most of my whole family attended today for which I am so thankful. They are my support and the reason why I can do what I do ❤️ It was also very cool to see some new faces in the class today!!! That inspires me to give 110% too! I love helping people on their journey to Find Their (Own) Victory through Yoga☺️. One of my new Yoga students today described my class as “P90X Yoga” which made me really happy! Another person said before class they were “grumpy and tired, and now after the class I’m happy and energetic!” This is a great reminder that: Yoga can make you stronger and better balanced in life as you get stronger and better balanced in the practice we flow through. Today, I wanted to send out a shoutout to say: Happy National Women Physicians Day!! ‍⚕️❤️ The holiday was technically on Feb 3rd, the birthday of the very first woman to receive a medical degree in the United States in 1849 . I love what I do! I wear many hats in life (physician ‍⚕️, mother , wife, daughter, friend , and Yogi‍♀️‍♀️ to name a few. However, the one that has been my passion from the time I was old enough to decide on a profession (in 1st grade) was being a Physician⚕️. Being of service to others in this very specific way has been a lifelong mission and dream of mine. I am a Pediatric Endocrinologist‍⚕️ who specializes in helping kids (hello, great days every day hanging out with kiddos!) with some complicated diagnoses like problems with Growth and Puberty, Thyroid problems, and Type 1 Diabetes to name a few. Kids are so resilient and they show me how much every single day❤️. I am really in love with what I do, and it drives me in a way that nothing else ever had. I feel very blessed professionally and wanted to send some love to the other women physicians out there on this particular day‍⚕️⚕️!! Let’s all, regardless of your profession, keep reaching up and driving forward to inspire our younger generations that they CAN be whatever they dream to be✨❤️!!       <image:caption>Hi everyone! Theme of today’s post: Reach up high, Reached farther, Reach for the Sun!!! ☀️ Natarajasana, or Dancer Pose…  is one of my favorites! And getting to touch the Sun ☀️on this beautiful day was just icing on the cake! Natarajasana is one of my favorite Yoga asanas for many reasons❤️. When I am fully stretched out, I can get my back leg higher, my balance stretched a little further, maybe the pose looks a little “prettier…”  But honestly, this Power pose truly makes me feel Powerful, regardless of where I am in my practice at the time of this pose ! Whenever I engage in this pose, I feel my Power, my Strength , and my Victory! This was one of the inspirations for starting my own virtual Yoga studio, Jeet Victory Yoga (aka JVY)! ❤️ I went through some tougher times personally (I am sure we all have), and this is when Yoga really pulled me through✨.       <image:caption>Hi everyone! When I started my Yoga journey, it was honestly to get a different type of Power strong workout. I’d leave those hot yoga practices dripping with sweat and feeling so empowered! I loved transitioning into and out of all of the arm balances and inversions‍♀️. I have always been drawn to structured Yoga practices⛩. But in some of my more recent yoga practices, I have started moving where my body takes me. It’s just the part of the my journey that I am walking through right now.  And I have to say, I’m really loving this new type of Yoga Flowing! Pictured here is a variation of Twisted Standing Pigeon Pose . This pose is a great hip and chest opener (win and win!)❣️. Hip openers are great for releasing tension and can even help with releasing stress and worry if that’s a focus or intention of your practice. Chest openers are amazing for resetting our emotions and make us open to giving and loving more easily. I didn’t realize how much I needed this pose in my life especially these days ! Here are some thoughts for today  Sometimes life pulls us in so many different directions ➡️⬇️⬆️⤵️, it’s hard to keep in mind our priorities ☝or even what is on the “must-do” list versus the “wish-could-do” list!  In those moments of things piling on and on, the best thing you can do for yourself could be something as simple as slowing down⛔️, talking a little 30-second “brain break” during your busy work day, cruise out for a little walk at lunchtime, watch the sunrise (or sunset!), anything that releases your mind from the lists, tasks, and speed of the day .  Pictured here is one of the gorgeous sunrises here in Dallas this week. Really the colors have been amazing and vibrant all week, but this one was particularly beautiful!  It reminded me that, of course there are things that must get done day-to-day , but there is so much more out there that is bigger than us! It helped put things into perspective for me and reset my mind back to place of positivity ☮️.  Here’s to finding your reset button today to start your week off in a positive and happy way too!! This pose is called… Shrivatsasana which is a pose representing the Buddhist symbol of the Endless (or Eternal) Knot. ❤️ This pose is an unusual one in Yoga. It is the Yogic depiction of the Endless (or Eternal) Knot.  This Knot and Pose symbolize the ever-changing life path. It’s a pose that intertwines the past and the present and reminds us that our path of wisdom, compassion, and spirituality is infinite. ❤️ Some say this pose also can be called the “Love Knot” as it represents the intertwining/union of Wisdom and Compassion. The knot has no beginning or end…  It looks simple enough, but it gets complicated really quickly as you intertwine your arms and legs. And I will say, you’ll definitely feel your legs burning if you’re doing the pose right and hoooolding for the exhale ! Today, I thought I’d sent out this thought :-) This pic is of when I was trying out getting into some different arm balances and just kind of playing around with my Yoga practice and Yoga poses ☀️.  Now don’t get me wrong- I love a strong intense Yoga flow as well as the next guy .  But on this day, it was just a light and fun practice for me. I was still sweating by the end and torched a ton of calories. But it was more of an unstructured practice for me. Just me, myself, and I .  I realized I am thankful and grateful to be able to enjoy time to myself, by myself. ❤️ I felt light and happy after my Yoga practice and throughout the next days just because I spent sometime with a less intense focus and shifted instead to fitness with more fun! ☀️  Try it out this week- switch out one of your intense days for a workout that is more lighthearted! Try to Check in with yourself and your mental health, especially with the way the world is moving these days  At our house, it’s end of summer camps, back-to-school prep (and some nerves about school starting up again), Covid numbers rising, et cetera, et cetera… ✏️⚠️ When things get overwhelming, just take a deep breath, turn inward even if it’s just for 30 seconds, and take 5 deep breaths. Try to say a Mantra, something like “I am Enough.” “Yes we can.” “This is going to be just fine!” Anything that is short that you can repeat and draw some solace from is a winner . So, during one of my workouts this week which was a Strength Training workout (!), I checked in and took a quick Garudasana variation, or Eagle Pose, to twist out some of my nerves and distractions! Garudasana is a twisting posture that encourages release of toxins and tension in your whole body . Try to incorporate this pose into your workouts this week and let me know if it helps to release some of your stress ❤️!! I hope this helps you as you move through your week! Reverse Warrior, or Viparita Virabhadrasana, can be a great pose for a quick side body stretch in any practice or type of workout. ‍♀️‍♀️ It strengthens your hips, quads, and torso, and it also increases whole-body flexibility, so it’s a total win-win-win of a pose! ❤️ Try working this pose into your workouts this week and tag me to let me know how it goes!! As I have alluded to, there’s been some things going on our end- house, health, etc. I am working staying positive and balanced to keep my family floating on and happy! ❤️ And I have to say, it’s working! My boys are amazing and helping so much with the process which is very cool to see the kind souls they are evolving into ❤️ In one of my workouts this weekend, I made a point to work on core inbetween yoga flows and weight sets.  I happened to pop into Reverse Plank, Purvottanasana, (couldn’t find a table emoji lol) which is a great pose to work on core, glutes, and spinal stabilization. Read: it’s GREAT for you esp if you spend a lot of behind a computer screen to stretch and not get weak in your core! This Purvottanasana pose was unique in that the pic captured me looking at myself in this pose in our home gym mirror. And I’m sad to say that I thought first of the imperfections I saw . However, I realized I did this and quickly reset! And then I thought: “I am stronger more capable than I think.”❤️ “I can solve problems creatively.” ❤️ “I am not alone and have a community and village to help.”❤️ The positive mindset made ALL the difference as I know we have all experienced. ☀️ So, big picture: Life happens. Stay positive and keep a smile on your face!       <image:caption>Hi everyone, Cruising into Dancer pose, or Natarajasana, this weekend while doing an outdoor workout with my boys, I fully confirmed that my flexibility for any type of backbend is pretty much gone ☹️ for a variety of reasons like injury etc...  I’m not going to lie, this bummed me out because it makes some poses way harder and other poses totally impossible (like Wheel Pose!)! ⚙️ However, I am still smiling  because: 1. My boys were cracking me up as I was falling out of the pose so my frame and timer is totally off but I kept this pic because they were being so supportive and funny!  Also I’m smiling because: 1. My body is still strong.  2. I have to make my peace with the fact that I am where I am and that is where I’m supposed to be.  3. I am so blessed to have a body can still move in so many different ways!  When Life teaches us these little lessons, remember to listen and adjust... because something Good will come along soon enough!! ❤️ Hang in there for the journey and let the good times roll!       <image:caption>Hey there gorgeous (that’s YOU!)! Give us a SMILE  The science of Smiling has been studied extensively and quite intensely. There are mounds of studies that go into the intricacies of smiling as it relates to recognition of facial cues, how faces around you are perceived when you’re smiling versus when you’re not, and even the pathophysiology of the effects of these facial muscle movements. The Big Picture is this: 1. Smiling increases feelings of Happiness because it increases release of certain neurotransmitters (dopamine and serotonin, aka The “Happy” Hormones). 2. Smiling decreases stress and anxiety by decreasing levels of the stress hormones in our body Cortisol and Epinephrine. 3. Smiling lowers heart rate and blood pressure as secondary outcomes of lower stress levels overall. The amazing thing is that these intricate processes occur whenever we smile, regardless of it is a smile in a time of stress or a time of joy. (!!) So whether you’re doing a killer workout, lifting more, holding a tough Yoga power pose for the thousandth time, having a crazy day at work, and even if you’re truly joyful, you’ll feel better and your whole body will benefit... when you smile! Mountain Pose, aka Tadasana, from the mountains!!  Mountain Pose is a great pose for strength, and even though it might not look like much, you are building muscle as you maintain this posture! The most important aspect of Tadasana is to set up a good foundation and rise above your body like a mountain  This is a fantastic pose to work into your daily workouts, especially for when you need to regain some Balance in any aspect of your life! :-) Combine it with some of the other poses you see in my posts like High lunge pose (Uttitha Ashwa Sanchalanasana) or Triangle post (Trikonasana) to make a little flow for the beginning or end of your workout!       <image:caption>For today’s post, I wanted to mention another way Yoga might help you and/or someone you know!  I don’t know about you guys, but I am having some major neck and back pains these days, especially when I have a lot of things on my plate that require more screen time: charting, finding fun recipes to cook for my fam, figuring out what my 6-year-old did in first grade today because he insists they only sang about dinos and cupcakes all day.  To prevent injury or muscle tightness, I hope these different yoga poses and stretches will hopefully help straighten you out so you can go back to your busy, multi-tasking, doing-all-the-things days!  The science of stretching and specifically yoga stretches speaks for itself and has been published numerous times for decades at least.  To put it simply, as summarized from Harvard Health Publishing, University of Chicago review articles, and countless other sources: “...Research has shown that stretching can help improve flexibility, and, consequently, the range of motion of your joints. Better flexibility may: Improve your performance in physical activities and decrease your risk of injuries.” Staying stagnant increases this risk of injury due to the effect stasis has on shortening muscular length, for example, that would then cause that muscle to not able to extend fully when called upon for activity. Maybe you can try, if you’re not already doing this, taking a few moments every hour from sitting to stand up, move your spine, and stretchhhh it out!       <image:caption>For today’s message, I thought I’d talk about something that I have been working on a lot lately: Staying balanced. We have to know when to push forward in life, but there is also great value in knowing when to scale it back.  Taking a moment to yourself and reflecting inward has huge value in your thoughts and actions thereafter, and just in how you move through your every day life. So, power through for sure when the time is right!!  And take it down a notch when your mind, body, and soul call for that too.  Wishing you Balance this week as you juggle everything fantastically through it all!! Poses: 1. Garudasana (Eagle Pose) - this pose really does a great job of challenging your balance. The way to stay in this twisted balance pose is to pick your Drishti (your non moving focal point), sit low enough in your hips, and keep the elbows in line with the shoulders. 2. Svarga Dvijasana (Bird of Paradise) - this is such a tough balancing power pose. You can do it with full extension of the lifted leg, or keep it a little bent to help your balance of course. The trick to staying balanced in this pose is to slowly raise your gaze as you elevate your leg in the bind and try to keep your shoulders level! 3. Me! aka A Work In Progress trying ❤️ #nofilter In all of these poses, if you fall out of the pose or can’t do the pose to the “full expression,” guess what? Whatever you CAN do is still yoga! I am reminded of what one of my younger patients (she was 6 years of age at the time), told me when I asked her about 1st grade: She said, and I quote: “It’s going only okay right now, but you know what, I know I can do it bc Big Girls Can Do Hard Things.” (!!!!) She is one of my inspirations for LIFE! So, I thought I’d break down a harder Arm Balance pose, like Running (Wo)Man, aka Eka Pada Koudinyasana II, to show you how to try it at home! The last year taught us many things including, when things get tougher, we actually DO get stronger and more resilient! So, go on, shake your tail feathers, try something new and hard. Because, you know, YOU can do hard things too ❤️ 1. Start in down dog with your hips high. 2. Bring your Right Foot to the outside of your Right Hand. 3. Shift your Right Hand to behind your Right Foot to where your Right thigh is resting on your Right Tricep. 4. Hope you and yours are finding ways to do All The Things while staying balanced this holiday season ❤️! For those interested, the poses and benefits are: 1. Wide Leg Seated Side Stretch (Parsva Upavista Konasana) - good stretch for hamstrings - good for after a run! 2. Half-split pose (Ardha Hanumanasana) - hip opener that stretches hamstrings and calves as well as the hip flexors - good in preparation for arm balances or splits (!) 3. Peaceful Warrior Pose (Shanti Virabhadrasana) - great for opening chest and rib cage - great side body stretch and for strengthening core  4. Triangle Pose (Trikonasana) - good for strengthening abs and back as well as lower extremities - improves balance and is a great core strengthener ✅ Try incorporating some of these into your warmups or cool-downs and see how you feel!       <image:caption>For today’s post, I thought I’d talk about inversions (which I love!). I arrived at Headstand, Shirshasana (first picture), a few years ago and am headed toward forearm stand, Pincha Mayurasana (second picture). [The wall behind me is so I don’t come crashing down! I am not using the wall to invert in these poses :-) ] I am working on consistency, staying centered, and calming my mind in this poses (and in life!). I love inversions because they challenge how we are balanced in the world. For me personally, inversions evolve my Asana practice but also evolve the deeper lays of yoga/life for me as well. I am inspired to elevate to the next level. Just like those before me have done. And like those after me will achieve. #RBG Thank you for continuing this journey with me! As I get my proverbial “ducks in a row” for Jeet Victory Yoga to start being able to teach for my own studio, I have been teaching for the studio where I received my amazing and traditional 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training. Today, I had the pleasure of having another one of my lovely family members in my class which made it even more fun! I am so grateful for my whole family and close friends, near and far, who have been so supportive of this journey. The picture you see here is of rural Newfoundland, where two of my biggest supporters reside. We are far in distance but not in our hearts.       <image:caption>My practice of Yoga deepened especially in the face of adversity, whether this was fighting for rotations as a medical student, to handling the challenges of qualifying exams, to dealing with professors of all types, Yoga has always been there to remind me of what is truly important in life.  Through my practice, I have been able to obtain a renewed reinforced positivity in what I can do and am better able to let go of what no longer serves me.  After having our second baby, I found myself in a busy Pediatric Subspecialty practice full-time as a mother of two beautiful babies and a wife and life partner to a great man.  However, I had no time or ability to get to the gym or even go outside for a run to stay fit. My workouts turned into 4:30 a.m. start times and the location was literally my closet.  Yoga kept up my fitness in a way that worked for me.  And that’s really what yoga is – it is what you make of it.  It can be about only the asanas, or postures; however, if you let it, Yoga can encourage and drive your personal growth and take you to the next step of your evolutionary journey (as it did for me).</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Hi! My name is Shamita Trivedi. I am a Physician. I am a Wife. I am a Mother. I am a Sister. I am a Daughter. I am a Yogi. Like all of us, I have been trying to find a way to balance all the different aspects of my life on the outside while also finding peace on the inside.  Yoga to me is a way of finding your own Peace and Confidence while living honestly in your own Personal Truth.  Yoga has always been a part of my life.  Through the good times and the not-so-good times, I consistently practiced Yoga.  I hate to say it, but Yoga for me started out as a “cool” way to work out after I was burnt out on running for fitness.  I became obsessed with arm balances and inversions like a lot of us.  In the next step of my journey, Yoga came to be the crux of my fitness after my health failed in my pregnancies and I was not able to run consistently afterwards.  As a practicing Pediatric Endocrinologist, the road to getting to practice medicine might seem like a straight line from being an Indian-American person born in the US to becoming a physician.  But my road to my career and life’s calling was anything but this.  To just be clear, I love being a Pediatric Subspecialist in Pediatric Endocrinology and truly have a deep passion for what I do. Getting to help kids and families through difficult times is one of my life’s callings and I feel so blessed that I get to participate in making kids healthy as a living!  The journey to getting to this point in my life has been a struggle at times, I must say.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>In this time of my life, it felt like things were just happening to me – my health was an inflammatory nightmare, my work was so busy and involved driving all over DFW to multiple clinics, and my family life was chaotic to say the least!   Through my consistent Yoga practice, I have found my inner peace again and my balance once again.  This is not something that you find and it just stays forever as I’m sure you know.  Finding your balance and peace is a moving target, and it just so happens that Yoga is a fulfilling way to recenter yourself again and again.  In my journey, I found myself asking deeper and deeper questions about Yoga itself which in turn lead to my completion of my Yoga Teacher Training.  I am now an RYT200 (Registered Yoga Teacher) having completed the 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training course at Satya Yoga, an international yoga school which offers an extremely traditional and unique training course.  I am grateful to have been able to do my training where I did. The most common definition is that Yoga comes from the Sanskrit root words meaning ”to unite” or “to come together.” The practice of Yoga is done with intention and emphasizes directing our thoughts towards the yoga practice itself. There are many different types of yoga including Raja, Karma, Bhakti, and Jnana.  The most widely practiced form of yoga in the West is Hatha yoga which is defined by aiming to purify the body and eventually the mind through physical transformation. My focus on the medical benefits of yoga are in two areas that are near and dear to my heart: Yoga for Patients with Type 1 Diabetes and Yoga for Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Medical Benefits of Yoga - Yoga for Patients with Type 1 Diabetes</image:title>
      <image:caption>Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1D) is a diagnosis in which the body destroys its own insulin-producing cells thereby impairing the body’s ability to maintain a normal blood sugar.  Children and adults with his diagnosis require insulin therapy to maintain normal blood sugars to prevent high blood sugars.  A cornerstone of therapy incorporated into the management of T1D is a healthy lifestyle including physical exercise.  Unfortunately, in patients with T1D, cardiovascular exercise, which is thought to be the most beneficial, can cause severe hypoglycemic episodes, or very low blood sugar episodes, which can then alter cardio-protective pathways and can be associated with greater likelihood of hypoglycemia in the future.  I consider myself very blessed to get to care for all types of kiddos in my practice and I do get to see many competitive and even elite athletes in my patient population.  However, in this population of athletes, hypoglycemic episodes during practice and/or games are more common due to the nature of the sport as well as the glucose counterregulatory mechanisms in place in the body at baseline (2).  Recent studies have shown that exercises like Yoga, which offer core strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular exercise, can achieve a good mode of physical activity and provide glucose homeostasis for the patient.  To break this down further, this means that Yoga is a way to get a great workout without having multiple episodes of dangerously low blood sugars! Yoga can and should, of course, be a component of a multifaceted and diverse physical activity regime.  One of my goals with Jeet Victory Yoga is to offer classes tailored to patients with Type 1 Diabetes to encourage a safe physical activity that will not cause adverse effects to the blood sugars overall.       <image:caption>Yoga is becoming more prevalent in the training regiments of many different realms of athletics.  Yoga is a particularly useful tool when it comes to injury prevention in “explosive” sports like basketball and tennis.  Yoga is a valuable aspect of injury prevention as a whole as it increases core stability, increases flexibility and range of motion, and can increase the ability to engage in relaxation during the sport as well (3).  Many studies have been conducted including randomized control trials regarding the benefits of yoga.  Overall, results suggest that regular yoga practice increases the flexibility and balance of athletes.  Additionally, it may enhance athletic performances that require these characteristics discussed here (4). Literature reviews consistently show that Yoga for Athletes prevents injury, decreases time in rehabilitation after injury, and can enhance performance overall.  I can personally attest that Yoga was essential for me to overcome my own sports-related injuries over the years.  Since we have a very fit and active family, injury prevention is a priority for me both at home and with Jeet Victory Yoga.
